La Peregrina was founded in 1999 by two experienced pearl and marketing individuals. Philippe Vasseur, a French national and former luxury goods senior executive, is firmly established in Tahiti while Anthony To, a Hong Kong Chinese is the managing partner in Hong Kong. He trains and leads a team of pearl specialists to sort and grade the pearls to the clients’ specific requirements.

Philippe and Anthony met in 1994 as Philippe was spearheading Tahitian pearl farm pioneer Robert Wan’s Asian international development. Anthony was hired to open the Hong Kong office after comprehensive training from Robert Wan on his private island of Marutea in the Tuamotu-Gambier Archipelago in Tahiti-the source of the world’s finest most coveted black natural cultured pearls.
